Mixed media drawing on Fabiano paper with graphite paint gouache and pastel. Framed in oak and non reflective glass.
In the summer of 2020, fires moved through vast areas of Australia, reshaping forests and grasslands. In 2021, returning to Crowdy Head, the landscape bore the marks of that intensity—charred, open, and altered.
The Grass Trees were growing back and the horizon was covered in seed heads.
This work draws closely into that moment—where devastation and regeneration sit side by side. The fine detail of each seed head becomes both record and reflection: of resilience, of cycles beyond human control, and of the fragile balance within which they occur.
Sometimes flame is needed to be reborn.
