Donald Friend, Bruce Arthur, Ray Crooke, Diana Conti, Ellis Rowan, Fred Williams, Alan Oldfeild, Brett Whitely, Russell Drysdale, Margaret Alley, Sidney Nolan, Valerie Albiston and Yvonne Cohen, were among a cohort of artists who found their way to Far North Queensland in the 20th Century to explore the idyll of island life and colour.
